THE TOOT HOOT!

It's going to be a hoot! The Toot Hill Hoot!!

Any of you that have run The Green Belt Relay or The Essex Way Relay will know Toot hill as a changeover point. If you're like us, you'll have seen the Green Man and thought it looked nice but never been in! Now's your chance!!

A Nine Mile Trail

A nine mile trail with a difference!! This time you'll get a weather proofed A4 easy to read and carry Ordnance Survey map with the whole route clearly marked. It clearly shows all the paths, tracks, woods, roads- the lot! The 9 mile course is overlaid so you won't (can't?) get lost. All you'll have to do is follow the map over 9 miles of varied, undulating(hilly), testing and scenic Essex countryside. There's very little road as well.

We consider this to be a bit more difficult than a normal route narrative trail, so it might be fun to go around in pairs to share the decision making... especially if you're new to O S map reading.

So if you want an alternative to the Brentwood half with a really friendly pub at the end, come and give it a go.

Venue - The Green Man, Toot Hill. Car park at rear plus plenty of roadside parking.
Directions - signposted on left between Ongar and M11 on A414
Date - Sunday 9th March
Starts - Anytime between 10.30am and 11.30am
Cost - £4 inc. £2 drinks voucher

NIGHT TIME TRAIL RESULTS

An intimate evening for all 16 runners who made it thru' the snow to get to the Stag last night for 6 miles of headtorch disciplinary action!!! Whilst the turnout was less than the organisers expected, the attendance was of the highest calibre. Every entrant stayed for a drink and a meal. The landlord was impressed! The spot prize (the Mercedes E320CDI, v low mileage ) went to entrant 17. As there were only 16 entrants, the prize went unclaimed!!!

SUMMER WHINE ON A SUNNY SUNDAY

85 trail enthusiasts benefitted from perfect conditions (and instructions!) on the sunniest day of the week. 8.6 cross country miles in very pleasent conditions thru' some previously ''un trailed'' private tracks and paths that gave the competitors a nice day out. Many local clubs supported the event and stayed on for tea and a chat.

The Essex Air Ambulance will benefit from the proceeds of the event. We raised £320 pounds in all which should keep the tin box in the air between Broomfield and Ongar.....

Thanks to Howard Jardine (he ran the check ins and outs), Dave Game (he took the money) and Graham Baker (the infamous Batty burger with or without stockings!!) on the day for their help and Trevor for the sawdust and burgers (not from the same supplier).

Graham, Yan and Dave enjoy the sun

Yan and Howard fiddle the books..............................

And Len, for lobbying for the addition of Stana Stairlifts at all stiles!!!

Next years route is already planned and I look forward to seeing you all then.

Heres the results (but you'll get a better view from http://www.midessexcasuals.org.uk/ )-
